The general objective of ProPlayas is to promote the application of the principles and practices of integrated coastal zone management to beaches through the exchange of experiences and the strengthening of cooperation, in order to establish a live basis of positive experiences with applications of integrated management of beaches, based upon pilot projects in representative beaches in the region. ProPlayas supports and facilitates the exchange of information and experiences, as well as the debate between its members.
ProPlayas is an initiative of Dr. Juan Alfredo Cabrera Hernández, Director of the Office for the Integrated Management of the Beaches of Varadero, Cuba.
ProPlayas has members in various countries of the region: Cuba, Mexico, Costa Rica, Colombia, Venezuela, Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina y Peru.
With its wide experience, ProPlayas supports the managers of beaches in the region to obtain certification of their beaches, as a result of integrated management of these.
Biomunicipios is the focal point for Colombia of ProPlayas, strengthening the management of the Colombian beaches through exchange of information and experiences, projects and meetings.
INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOPS ON INTEGRATED MANAGEMENT AND CERTIFICATION
A series of theoretical-practical workshops is planned to initiate the process of certification of beaches in Colombia, and to provide tools for such initiatives in the country. These workshops are being organised with the support of the ProPlayas network and its experts.
